Distributing Imelda’s Jewelry

ah. «Jane Ryan» and «William Saunders» were invented names used by Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos as a cover when they deposited funds on Swiss bank accounts. In 2012, the Philippine artist Pio Abad started to research and reflect on the treasures of the former presidential couple and came up with various projects. They  were exhibited internationally. Since 2018, he has also collaborated with the British designer Frances Wadsworth Jones. In their project «The Collection of Jane Ryan and William Saunders», they put a selection of jewels from Imelda Marcos’ collection up for use in an augmented-reality-application. The audience is invited to displace those jewels to different locations of the world. Precise information on the value of individual pieces of jewelry, and the public services that could be financed with that amount in the Philippines, make the political spin of this project, and of #digitalrepatriation, very clear.
