More information:

In the past two years of heavy travel restrictions, people still found ways to stay connected online. From different parts of the world, people with a link to the Philippines joined together for family gatherings, conferences or public commemorations. With their individual perspectives on Philippine issues, they have forged new ways of looking at the Philippines, making it even more tangible that «the Philippines» is more than just a country in South East Asia – it has brought forth interconnected communities in Switzerland and across the globe.

At the cusp of a turbulent post-covid period, this symposium aims to activate such connections and study the Philippines in the broader context of the world we live in. Researchers from abroad and within Switzerland take us by the hand as they follow the trail of traveling words and artefacts or introduce us to changing concepts of citizenship, wherever international migration meets the vigors of nationalism.

We invite everyone and anyone interested in Philippine issues to a place where we can finally reconnect and exchange ideas in a convivial atmosphere. With a mix of talks and musical as well as visual presentations, the symposium offers glimpses into contemporary academic and artistic practices emerging at this particular moment in history.

Following the day program, we also invite you to join us for an informal evening of cultural participation.
